
Emily has worked as a drug and alcohol counselor for over 30 years, in San Francisco, California and in Lexington, Kentucky. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Women’s Studies from San Francisco State University, and an Master of Arts Degree in Public Administration (focusing on substance abuse treatment program development) from the University of Kentucky.
Emily’s professional background since 1990 includes such diverse experience as group and individual counseling with substance abuse clients, providing education, intervention and treatment in both residential and outpatient programs; working in women’s residential recovery programs in both San Francisco and Lexington; providing substance abuse counseling for clients with HIV/AIDS at Walden House in SF; individual and group education and counseling at the Morton Center in Lexington; technical assistance to Early Intervention Program instructors throughout Kentucky for the Prevention Research Institute (PRI); and 20 years teaching (PRI) PRIME For Life alcohol and drug education classes, primarily with folks who have driven under the influence, or have substance misuse issues.
Emily has earned professional certifications and training as a PRIME For Life instructor, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) in Kentucky (2000-2018), instructor in the Recovery Dynamics curricula, training as a Motivational Interviewing Counselor, a certified instructor in HIV/AIDS Workplace Education, and in Basic Transformative Mediation from the Transformation House in Lexington.
